When to specify MDF cores instead of grey board
Catalog MDF runs 1.5–7 mm. It is for lid stiffness and weight, not for a cheaper rigid look. Same dieline, different factory path.
Weight and lid slam
If the lid must feel like wood furniture, MDF is the catalog path. If it must fold for freight, grey board is the path.
Caliper band
Write 1.5–7 mm only if you mean the catalog band. Pick one thickness for the sample. Do not write “MDF or grey, you choose.”
Wrap still prints on Heidelberg
MDF is the core. The wrap sheet is still offset + finish. Colour lives on paper, not on the fibreboard.
Catalog ranges only. Confirm on sample, board lot, and destination spec. Certificate numbers are not invented here — request current scans on the RFQ.
